The American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) collection holds almost 1500 35mm prints, mostly American, from the exploitation era of independent film. We do however hold other titles.
Strengths of our collection include American horror films, action films, sexploitation, hicksploitation, blaxploitation, and Hong Kong-produced kung fu films (primarily made by the Shaw Brothers production house).
We also have over 3500 35mm trailers.
Eventually, a portal will be created through which researchers and programmers will be able to view our collection, its contents, and each print’s condition. For the time being, however, contacting our staff is the primary search tool. We are happy to help you make arrangements to borrow prints. There is a reasonable processing fee, and we do require that the borrower pay for specified shipping services.
Please note that many of our prints are delicate, and some, irreplaceable. We demand that borrowers respect our prints. An example is that only dual-projector set-ups are recommended for screening purposes. Platter systems can damage our prints. Exceptions are occasionally granted, but only on a case-by-case basis.
We also welcome inquiries from teachers, professors, and researchers.
There are guidelines and procedures to borrowing films from the American Genre Film Archive. Please click on the tab above for Loan Guidelines, and for the Loan Contract form, which must be completed and returned before any film leaves our building.
