NEKROMANTIK 2

Jörg Buttgereit, Germany, 1991, Arrow Films, Horror

“An exceptionally quiet and observant display of transgression.”
—Eli Hayes, LETTERBOXD

Such is the corrosive power of transgressive art that movies like Jorg Buttgereit’s NEKROMANTIK films could actually prompt the German government to declare them unfit for public consumption. In NEKROMANTIK 2, Monika is a beautiful necrophiliac who lives alone in Berlin. By night, she prowls through cemeteries searching for fresh corpses. When she reads about the suicide of Rob (from the first film), she finds his grave and brings home his body. Mark lives across town and makes his living dubbing sex films. After meeting Monika, romance blossoms—but all is not well in Monika’s world, for she must make a final choice between loving the living or the dead.
