SLEEPING DOGS

Roger Donaldson, New Zealand, 1977, Arrow Films, Action

Starring the incredible duo of Sam Neill (JURASSIC PARK, Zulawski’s POSSESSION) and Warren Oates (BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA), SLEEPING DOGS is simultaneously a political thriller, a personal drama and a true landmark in New Zealand cinema.

In his first lead feature role, Sam Neill is Smith, a man escaping the break-up of his marriage by finding isolation on a coastal island. As he settles in, the country experiences its own turmoil: an oil embargo has led to martial law and civil war, into which Smith is increasingly sucked into.

Directed by Roger Donaldson, who’d later helm the Tom Cruise vehicle COCKTAIL and the gross-out horror thriller SPECIES.
