LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, MR. LEONARD COHEN

Donald Brittain & Don Owen, Canada, 1965, Canadian International Pictures, Docs

Leonard Cohen revisits his hometown of Montreal “to renew his neurotic affiliations” in this landmark black-and-white documentary portrait by Donald Britain and THE ERNIE GAME filmmaker Don Owen. Made several years before the release of Cohen’s first album, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, MR. LEONARD COHEN showcases the artist’s pre-music career as a poet and novelist, attending readings, appearing on local television, and staying at a three-dollar-a-night hotel room in a shady part of the city.
