MARDI GRAS MASSACRE

Jack Weis, USA, 1978, Severin Films, Horror

This is the Mardi Gras celebration you've been waiting for. A psychopathic killer kidnaps hookers from the New Orleans gutters so he can sacrifice them to an Aztec god. There is also a pimp who plays air-keyboards, a brawl that happens in fake slow motion, and music that would have been rejected for use on an episode of PEOPLE'S COURT. The final film from New Orleans exploitation filmmaker Jack Weis, MARDI GRAS MASSACRE is a stoned, disco-drenched proto-slasher that has long been considered an homage to H.G. Lewis's BLOOD FEAST. Still banned in the UK as one of the original DPP 39 Video Nasties, the film has been newly restored from the best surviving film elements.
