THE VENUS OF ILLE

Mario Bava & Lamberto Bava, Italy, 1981, Severin Films, Horror

The final directorial effort of Mario Bava (aided here by his son and future horror maestro Lamberto Bava), THE VENUS OF ILLE has a lot in common with the British "Ghost Stories For Christmas" TV-movie tradition. THE VENUS OF ILLE was produced for RAI-TV’s early-’80s horror anthology show “The Devil’s Game”.

A wealthy landowner uncovers a bronze statue of Venus on his property. He asks an antique expert to examine the statue and confirm its wealth. But upon arrival, the expert is stricken with love for the landowner’s daughter-in-law…who bears an uncanny resemblance to the Venus statue!
