In an existential desert truck-stop riff on the Mary Poppins fable, BAGDAD CAFÉ is a radiant, oddball arthouse comedy about the relationship between a stranded German tourist (Marianne Sägebrecht, SUGARBABY), an irritable truck stop owner (CCH Pounder, AVATAR) and a kooky ex-Hollywood outsider artist (Jack Palance). Filmmaker Percy Adlon's method is intimate, quirky and affirmative. Adlon’s precise use of place, expressive color and slow-burn pacing allow him to effortlessly raise BAGDAD CAFÉ into the realm of fantasy, magic and epiphany.
