CHOPPER

An instant classic upon its release in 2000, this debut feature by Andrew Dominik (THE ASSASSINATON OF JESSE JAMES) hasn’t lost any of its power to shock and make you guffaw with huge laughs. Eric Bana’s breakthrough role in CHOPPER is that of real-life convict and author Mark “Chopper” Read: son of a devoutly religious mother, wisecracking criminal bungler and ultraviolent weirdo. Chopper’s “outlaw hero” status stems from his disdain for middle-class mores and inscrutable, childlike decisions (which, while horrifying in real life, make for an incredible cinematic thrillride.) Combined with Dominik’s exaggerated lighting schemes and wild angles, Bana’s performances is one for the ages.
