HITCHER IN THE DARK

Umberto Lenzi, Italy, 1989, Vinegar Syndrome, Cult

“A great score, a nice slow build-up of tension, a psychotic Winnebago man with mommy issues, a wet t-shirt contest, a gruesome chest carving scene and a pretty great ending.” -- JosephGio, LETTERBOXD

Directed by Umberto Lenzi (CANNIBAL FEROX), HITCHER IN THE DARK is an ultra-violent mix of suspense thriller and action. Young, handsome Mark roams the southeastern U.S in his decked-out camper, preying upon female hitchhikers. He also takes photos of the grisly aftermath to add into his macabre collection. But everything changes when stumbles across Daniela, a spitting image for his deceased mother. One of several films produced in the United States by Joe D'Amato (ANTHROPOPHOGUS) that attempted to ride on the coattails of a popular American film, this was marketed in Italy as HITCHER 2 and appears in a brand new 4K restoration from its original 35mm negative.
