HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL

William Castle, USA, 1959, Film Masters, Horror

"A seminal 1950s picture."
—Joe Dante

HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL is one of scaremeister William Castle’s greatest achievements, and an essential chapter in mid-century horror. The first of two team-ups between Castle and emerging horror star Vincent Price, the story follows a group of people who are offered $10,000 by a millionaire (Price) if they can survive a night in a haunted house. During the film's initial release, Castle created one of his most unforgettable gimmicks—"Emergo," a full-sized, glow-in-the-dark skeleton that flew over the heads of moviegoers.
