MAVKA: THE FOREST SONG

Completed and released a year after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the animated fairy tale MAVKA is based upon the play written in the early 20th century by Ukrainian poet Lesya Ukrainka. This ancient narrative portrays characters from Slavic and Ukrainian folk mythology, but remains relevant today with its themes applicable to times of war. Enigmatic forest spirit Mavka faces an impossible choice between love and her duty as Guardian of the Heart of the Forest when she falls for a talented young human musician named Lukas.
