MOONLIGHTING

Jerzy Skolimowski, UK, 1982, Shout! Factory, Arthouse

“A profound, gripping comedy of terror and isolation, oppression and entrapment." - Dave Kerr, Chicago Reader

From Jerzy Skolimowski (DEEP END, EO, THE SHOUT), one of Europe’s most underrated and fascinating filmmakers. Made in quick response to the Soviet military clampdown of Poland in December 1981, MOONLIGHTING stars Jeremy Irons as the only English-speaker amongst a quartet of Polish day laborers who find themselves in Britain without work permits. Sent to London by their rich boss to renovate his apartment there on the cheap, they must adapt to inhospitable conditions by shoplifting and other means of survival. But when a military coup takes place back in their homeland, Irons is forced into a twisted parody of labor relations when he decides to conceal the news from his compatriots.
