SNUFF BOX

Various, UK, 2006, Severin Films, Cult

In terms of rights, theatrical screenings of rad British TV shows have always been difficult to untangle. Until now! Thanks to Severin Films, SNUFF BOX—one of the best-kept secrets in British comedy—has been saved from the void. This maverick anti-sitcom written by and starring Matt Berry (WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS) and American comedian Rich Fulcher (THE MIGHTY BOOSH) has been described by AV Club as “too dark for TV, too smart for YouTube”—a legacy instantly cemented when the BBC chose to air it only a single time. This depraved show loosely centers around a pair of jovial hangmen and is stuffed with twisted sketch comedy a la Monty Python: bad first dates, time travel, sex, whiskey, awkward moments, random beatings, snappy musical numbers, one very long white hall, rampant swearing, and other pleasures.
