THE DOUBLE

Romolo Guerrieri, Italy, 1971, Radiance Films, Horror

One of the undiscovered psychedelic greats of giallo, THE DOUBLE is an exploration of metaphysical sexiness, masculinity and the uncanny. Giovanni (Jean Sorel, BELLE DE JOUR) is shot in an underground parking garage by a mysterious bearded man. With delirious editing, as Giovanni’s life flashes before his eyes, we learn about his flirtatious wife Lucia (Ewa Aulin, DEATH LAID AN EGG) and the fissures she creates, complications with the family biz, Lucia’s relationship with a travelling hippie and her beautiful mother-in-law (Lucia Bosé, FELLINI SATYRICON).
