THE FOREST OF THE WOLF

Pedro Olea, Spain, 1970, Vinegar Syndrome, Horror

In 19th century rural Spain, an impoverished peddler and petty thief who suffers from frequent seizures may—or may not—be a werewolf. Nevertheless, he is often overcome by an animalistic urge to kill, resulting in superstition and panic in the nearby villages. The first in a series of dark folk horror films by multiple Goya Award-winning filmmaker Pedro Olea, THE FOREST OF THE WOLF (El Bosque del Lobo) is a cold and unsettling portrait of a serial killer set against a backdrop of religious conservatism.
