THE REDEEMER: SON OF SATAN

Constantine S. Gochis, USA, 1978, Vinegar Syndrome, Horror

“A kid (who is THE REDEEMER! SON OF SATAN himself) rises from a quarry and possesses a priest who then picks 6 former classmates who just happen to represent 6 of the 7 deadly sins because who has time to do math or be bothered to stage 7 elaborate kills?!! 6 is enough!” - Tony The Terror, Letterboxd

This hazy, unique early meta-slasher is creepy, unsettling and places all bets on the mysterious side of things. After a baffling prologue involving a kid who rises out of the water, a sermon and the murder of a janitor, the synths kick in and the scene is set. Six extremely Seventies people are trapped at their high school reunion by a psychotic masked preacher who wants to off them for the sinful lives they lead. This preservation scan from an extremely rare 35mm print shows off some incredible mold blips and wild grain…which gives it all a lovely “you’re not supposed to be watching this” vibe.
