THE WOMAN CHASER

Robinson Devor, USA, 1999, Vinegar Syndrome, Cult

Based on famed crime novelist Charles Willeford’s novel, THE WOMAN CHASER stands alongside BARTON FINK and THE PLAYER as a dark showbiz comedy not afraid to showcase the industry’s most insidious aspects. Richard Hudson (Patrick Warburton, in a career-defining performance) is a shady used-car salesman / aspiring filmmaker living in 1950s L.A. who scripts what would be his first film “The Man Who Got Away”: a tawdry drama about a truck driver who murders a young girl. Hudson’s path to being Tinseltown’s newest auteur is fraught when his project is deemed uncommercial, his sexual trysts keep piling up and his family relationships get worse by the day. But Hudson will stop at nothing, even if it means destroying everything and everyone in his path…including Hollywood itself.
