VISITOR Q
Takashi Miike’s staggering cinematic legacy has borne an avalanche of iconic (and iconically messed up) masterworks like AUDITION, GOZU, ICHI THE KILLER and HAPPINESS OF THE KATAKURIS, but none can match the straight-up psycho vibes of 2001’s VISITOR Q. Filmed at lightning speed on MiniDV in just five days, this is one hell of a provocation: an endless tableaux of scene sketches highlighting the twistedness of one suburban Japanese family vs. one depraved scalliwag stranger bent on out-freaking them at every turn. At minimum, you will never forget at least eight of VISITOR Q’s total body shocks.
