Horror maestro Dario Argento (SUSPIRIA, DEEP RED) sets his sights on a lavish re-telling of Gaston Leroux’s early 20th-century tale, whilst still injecting the proceedings with his trademark visual flair and gruesome gore setpieces. Featuring daughter Asia Argento in the lead role as Christine Daaé, an understudy in “Romeo and Juliet” who falls under the influence of a maskless Phantom (Julian Sands!) who was raised by rats. This deranged Grand Guignol-inflected film feels like the best of the Full Moon Features vibe, all with legit beautiful music by Ennio Morricone.
