Argento hits the Aughties hard with this later-period giallo offering that takes the familiar genre trappings and plants them firmly in a turn-of-the-millenium milieu, complete with a fittingly pulsing electro score by Goblin’s Claudio Simonetti (SUSPIRIA, DEEP RED, TENEBRAE, PHENOMENA.) In Rome, inspector Anna Mari receives a macabre b’day surprise in the form of an email from someone calling themself “The Card Player”, and claiming to be responsible for a recent British tourist kidnapping.. In a sadistic twist, the kidnapper challenges the authorities to a game of online poker to determine whether the young woman lives or dies. Co-scripted by Argento collaborator Franco Ferrini (PHENOMENA, DEMONS) and featuring gruesome SFX from Sergio Stivaletti (CEMETERY MAN.)
