At the peak of his Seventies cinematic triumphs, horror legend Dario Argento created projects for RAI TV that broadcast his singular vision into millions of Italian homes. “Door Into Darkness” is Argento’s top-rated 1973 giallo anthology series produced and hosted by the maestro himself. Argento also directed two of the series’ four episodes, which comprise this theatrical program.
“The Tram” is easily the series’ best episode. A young woman is murdered one night on a busy commuter train without other passengers noticing. The case poses a challenge to Inspector Giordani, who decides to stage a re-enactment with the passengers. Expanded from a sequence originally written for BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE, this lively mystery boasts a terrific climax and a slew of familiar character actors from Argento's films to that point.
