EDGE OF THE AXE

José Ramón Larraz, Spain, 1988, Arrow Films, Horror

“The computer angle is adorable, while the axe murders are appropriately jolting including a great curtain raiser set in a car wash.”
— Nathaniel Thompson, MONDO DIGITAL

From cult Spanish filmmaker José Ramón Larraz (VAMPYRES) comes this long-neglected late-1980s slasher, unleashed from the VHS ghetto and fully restored for the first time ever! The rural community of Paddock County is being rocked by the crazed exploits of an axe-wielding psychopath, who stalks the night in a black trenchcoat and mask. As the victims pile up, the authorities attempt to keep a lid on the situation, while computer whizz-kids Gerald and Lillian seek to unmask the killer. Set in California but shot primarily in Madrid — giving the film an aesthetically bizarre atmosphere similar to PIECES — EDGE OF THE AXE is a bizarro hack-and-slash party from one of the titans of Spanish terror.
